Alicia Fu Jun Lew was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She was raised in Brookline where she attended the Brookline High School. She was not raised with a traditional art or design background and was born into a family of scientists and engineers. She first attended College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts where she was a goal tender on the varsity women’s ice hockey team and studied math and economics. She soon found that her passion was art and design. RISD was the next stop on her journey.
Alicia Lew is currently an Industrial Design student at the Rhode Island School of Design. She focuses her education on both design and entrepreneurship. She complements her education at RISD by enrolling in classes at Brown University and the MIT Sloan School of Management. Alicia also values interdisciplinary collaboration and has studied hot glass and digital media.
She has designed products for production in both the developing and first world. In the past she has worked for Community Boating, Inc (a non-profit sailing boathouse in Boston), and JACK SPADE. She enjoys start up ventures and was a finalist in the MIT 100K Business Plan Competition. Her team, Lark Technologies, won the Mobile Technology track in the Spring of 2010. Her work has been featured in a range of media from Forbes to NotCot.org. She doesn’t cater to one user group and likes it that way.
In her spare time, she is the goal tender for the RISD Nads club ice hockey team. She also sails casually with the Brown University sailing team. Risk taking is another hobby that Alicia is fond of. She enjoys skydiving. She believes that if you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much space.
Alicia’s parents, Ken and Nancy, still live in Brookline with her dog Coco. Her older brother Chris graduated from Bowdoin College and majored in both biology and economics.
