Green Felt. This jacket is wired with conductive thread, a solar cell, Lilypad heat sensor, and Lilypad Arduino. When the jacket encounters the environment, the temperature sensor reads the ambient temperature outdoors, and lights up a certain amount of LEDs based on how warm or cold it is outside. |
Bent aluminum, polystyrene, leds. This low price point infant phototherapy device was designed to treat neonatal jaundice in vietnam's rural clinics and district hospitals. The project was supported by the MIT Sloan School of Management and Design that Matters in Cambridge, MA. This device has been featured in Forbes, BusinessWire, CNBC, and MIT News “Making Progress in Product Design at MIT: How a mashup of disciplines builds genius—and really cool stuff” 5/19/2010. Finalist in the Cooper Hewitt National Design Awards Corporate and Instutional Achievement Category 2010. |

Tin Sheet. Tin is a highly limiting and unforgiving material that also provides an interesting design challenge. As a result, the Tin Portal and Tin Hexagons were designed created with machine and material constrains in mind. Machines used to execute this design include the finger break, jump shear and angle notcher. Both objects are made without the use of any welding or adheasives. Both pieces are hand held objects. |
